HSC GPA Calculator for Bangladesh students 2026 with 4th subject bonus

What is an HSC GPA Calculator?

An HSC GPA Calculator is an online tool that calculates your Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) Grade Point Average using the official Bangladesh Education Board grading system. It handles the 4th subject bonus automatically and works for all three groups — Science, Humanities, and Business Studies.

This HSC GPA calculator is built for students who appeared in the HSC examination under any of the Bangladesh education boards (Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Cumilla, Jashore, Sylhet, Barishal, Dinajpur, Mymensingh), as well as Madrasah and Technical boards.

How to Calculate HSC GPA

HSC GPA is calculated on a 5.00 scale using six compulsory main subjects (Bangla, English, ICT + three group subjects) plus the 4th subject as a bonus.

The formula: GPA = (Total GP of 6 Main Subjects + 4th Subject Bonus) ÷ 6

  • Step 1: Convert marks into grade points using the HSC grading scale.
  • Step 2: Add the grade points of all six main subjects.
  • Step 3: Calculate the 4th subject bonus: (4th Subject GP – 2.00).
  • Step 4: Add the bonus to the main subjects’ total.
  • Step 5: Divide the total by 6.

HSC Grading System (Bangladesh Education Board)

HSC grading system Bangladesh Education Board with marks range, letter grades, and grade points
Marks RangeLetter Grade Grade Point
80 – 100 A+5.00
70 – 79 A4.00
60 – 69A-3.50
50 – 59B3.00
40 – 49C2.00
33 – 39D1.00
0 – 32F0.00

A single F grade in any main subject makes your GPA 0.00.

4th Subject Bonus Rule in HSC

In HSC, the 4th subject is chosen from a set of optional subjects based on your group. The bonus rule is:

  • Bonus = (4th Subject GP – 2.00)
  • Only the points above 2.00 count.
  • An F in the 4th subject does not affect your GPA.

Example: 4th subject grade A (GP 4.00) → Bonus = 4.00 – 2.00 = 2.00

SSC vs HSC GPA — What’s the Difference?

Students often confuse SSC and HSC GPA calculations. The key differences:

SSC:

  • Main subjects: usually 9 or 10
  • Divisor: number of main subjects
  • Groups: Science, Humanities, Business Studies

HSC:

  • Main subjects: always 6 (Bangla, English, ICT + 3 group subjects)
  • Divisor: always 6
  • Groups: Science, Humanities, Business Studies

Using the SSC method for HSC will give you the wrong GPA. This calculator uses the correct HSC formula automatically.

Golden A+ vs Regular GPA 5.00 in HSC

Golden A+ (Golden GPA 5.00): You get A+ in every subject, including the 4th subject.

Regular GPA 5.00: You receive a lower grade in one or two subjects, but the 4th subject bonus pushes your GPA back to 5.00.

Both give a GPA of 5.00, but only Golden A+ means A+ in all subjects.

HSC GPA Calculation Example

HSC GPA 5.00 Golden A+ result example from calculator

Suppose an HSC Science student received these grades:

SubjectGradePoint
Bangla A4.00
EnglishA-3.50
ICT A+5.00
PhysicsA+5.00
ChemistryA+5.00
BiologyA+5.00
4th Subject (Math)A+5.00

Main subjects: 6

Total main GP: 27.50

4th subject bonus: 5.00 – 2.00 = 3.00

Total = 27.50 + 3.00 = 30.50

GPA = 30.50 ÷ 6 = 5.00

How to Calculate HSC GPA Without the 4th Subject

HSC 4th subject bonus calculation formula with step by step example

Some university admission forms and scholarship applications ask for GPA excluding the 4th subject. The formula is:

GPA (without 4th subject) = Total GP of 6 Main Subjects ÷ 6

Simply divide the grade points of the six compulsory subjects by 6. The 4th subject bonus is not included.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How many subjects are counted in HSC GPA?

Six main subjects are counted: Bangla, English, ICT, and three group subjects. The 4th subject is added as a bonus.

How is the 4th subject bonus calculated?

Subtract 2.00 from the 4th subject’s grade point. The result is added to the main subjects’ total.

What is Golden A+ in HSC?

Golden A+ means A+ (GP 5.00) in every subject including the 4th subject.

Can I get GPA 5.00 without Golden A+?

Yes. If the 4th subject bonus compensates for a lower grade in any main subject, you can still get GPA 5.00.

What happens if I fail in one main subject?

Your overall HSC GPA becomes 0.00. Only the 4th subject allows an F without affecting the GPA.

How do I convert HSC marks to GPA?

Use the Bangladesh Education Board grading scale. Marks between 80–100 give A+ (5.00), 70–79 give A (4.00), and so on.
